Why I love to GO to the gym!

What a difference 12 hours makes. I usually work out in the morning at the local gym. It’s not anything fancy, but it certainly does the job. Yesterday, Landon worked out in the morning and I had the “evening shift” to go to the gym. I had an awesome workout in the pool and on the treadmill.( Thanks to American Idol and SVU for keeping my mind off the speed and timer setting on the treadmill.) I came home from the gym feeling great!
Well, this morning, I wasn’t able to go to the gym because of Landon leaving for work, so I just figured I would do a workout video here at home. Ya, it sounded like a good idea. This is how it went . . .

Stretch 2-3-4 “Averie, watch out honey. Easton you’re going to have to scoot over” (He likes to do the video with me.)

Start with squats “Easton, don’t play with Mommy’s weights”
“but mom, I’m not playing, I’m just using them.”
“Averie, quit spanking my bum while saying ‘bum’ every time I squat down.”

Side lunges and abductor lifts “Averie get off the step please. Sure Easton, I’ll get your own step for you. I’m not busy at all.”

Lunges on top of step “Averie put the toilet plunger down.” (No, I’m not even kidding) Thankfully, by this time, Easton had decided it would be best to stay out of my way and was upstairs. However, I was running into the basket of laundry that I had folded last night.

Okay, onto shoulders and biceps. Averie: “I cookie.” Yes, indeed, she had somehow managed to get into the pantry and find a cookie. Whatever, I know it’s only 8:20, but enjoy the cookie. At least, you’re upstairs and not getting in the way. (Don’t I sound like such a sweet mom?)

By this time, I didn’t even attempt the ab video I had planned on. I knew by the stretching I had done that there was no way that Averie would stay off of me for long enough to even do one crunch. (I did enjoy her snuggles and hugs though. Maybe I should stretch on the ground more often.)
Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids to pieces and enjoy the time I have with them. However, I am a better Mommy when I get a good workout in and as I learned this morning, a good workout is most likely to be achieved at the gym!

I totally relate! I have to workout when Leo's asleep, so either in the middle of the day or right before bed. I'll have to look into the gym, though. That sounds like a good option.

I so know how you feel. It is my sanity time so I can be a better mom by going to the gym and the times that I can't get to the gym and I try to do it at home it is never as good.

yes, that is pretty much how it goes at my house...and, believe it or not, I was able to get through those crazy workouts (with, and sometimes without, sanity) for about six months...but now, I can't do it. I make it through aobut 5 to 10 minutes...and I end up stopping. The gym is where it needs to be! Thanks for the motivation!

Thats hilarious! Your poor kids never get any attention in your house so they feel like they have to get you while your down (literally) just kidding your a great mom and thats to funny

Funny. I've had similar scenes at my house. I've decided it's better to buckle the kid into her chair and give her treats. That lasts for about 20 minutes and that's about how long I last nowadays! Thanks goodness for City League Volleyball to get out and get a fun workout!

That is why I have to go to the gym. I do one day long to have an entire gym in my house, but I still think I would GO to the gym so I don't get distracted. But I would at least have more options when working out at home. I usually do work out videos when Evan is napping and I will put a show on for Anna, but she seems to be more interested in working out with me. It's when she asks me a million questions and I am sweating and out of breath that I am not the nicest to her. Oops!
