General Conference

This last weekend was the 182nd Semi-Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka as Mormons). It's a chance for the entire church to listen to the voice our Prophet, President Thomas S. Monsen, and other leaders. What a blessing it is to have a living prophet on the earth to communicate with us what our Heavenly Father would like us to know.

As it is a semi-annual event, we have lots of fun family traditions that revolve around listening to Conference. Since we were away from extended family for the first time during conference (which honestly feels more like we're missing a family holiday) we had the chance to contintue all these fun traditions with our own little family. We had a wonderful weekend. Here are some of the highlights. (Excuse the cell phone camera pics. Someday we'll get a new camera.)

Back in Utah, my Mom would always make biscuits and gravy for the entire family for General Conference. This is no small feat since we are a numerous group. Let's just say that I enjoyed this tradition waaaay more when all I had to make was orange juice. After several calls to my mom for cooking questions, I was successful in making my first batch of Conference biscuits and gravy and they were actually quite good if I do say so myself.
(Don't let Easton's face deceive you. He loved his breakfast as evidence by the 3 biscuits and gravy he ate.)
To help the kids listen to the talks, we use lots of different activites to help them pay attention. Easton invited one of his friends over to watch conference (yes, that would be the blond blur you  standing next to Easton. Geez, we need an acutal camera.) This is them finding the General Authority (one of the leaders of the church) that is speaking and putting a sticker on their picture.)

Conference Bingo. Always a favortie!

So in Utah, since there is such a concentration of members of the LDS Church, General Conference is on the local TV and radio stations. Here in Kentucky, we're not that lucky. Since we don't have cable, we had errr . . . I mean got to watch it via the internet on the laptop. It made things a bit more interesting and the furniture was arranged in various ways throughout the weekend.
As always, we feel blessed to listen to the words of our Heavenly Father, as He speaks through the current Prophet and Apostles. What a blessing to have our cups filled and our sprits lifted!!
